Grovecrest holds Science Fair Kristen Dickerson was named the winner in the Grovecrest Elementary Science Fair held April 16 and 17. There were 60 entries in the fair this year. The projects ranged from the study of Melanoma (skin cancer) to the wonderful properties of corn starch. Awards were given to the top three projects as well as five projects receiving honorable mention. These were based on effort, ef-fort, originality, and neatness. Kristen Dickerson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David W. Dickerson, project dealt with how fertilizers affect plant growth. Second place went to Jeff Jacklin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Harold Jacklin. His project was on seed germination. ger-mination. Third place went to Van Ormsbee, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ormsbee. Orm-sbee. Van's project dealt with the growth of crystals. The honorable mentions went to Karen Jones, Jeff Duvall, Chad Dalton, Melissa Goodman and Dean Brockhausen. The reason this years Science Fair was such a success was due to the hard work put in by the students and the support from parents. Let's hope this continues or spurs each participants interest in science. |
