Ron Reynolds won three individual events and ran a leg on a winning relay team in the big win over Payson last week. Photo by Kurt Montgomery. Grovecrest holds Science Fair Kristen Dickerson was named the winner in the Grovecrest Elementary Science Fair held April 16 and 17. There were 60 entries in the fair this year. The projects ranged from the study of Melanoma (skin cancer) to the wonderful properties of corn starch. Awards were given to the top three projects as well as five projects receiving honorable mention. These were based on ef-fort, originality, and neatness. Kristen Dickerson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. David W. Dickerson, project dealt with how fertilizers affect plant growth. Second place went to Jeff Jacklin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Harold Jacklin. His project was on seed ger-mination. Third place went to Van Ormsbee, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Orm-sbee. Van's project dealt with the growth of crystals. The honorable mentions went to Karen Jones, Jeff Duvall, Chad Dalton, Melissa Goodman and Dean Brockhausen. The reason this years Science Fair was such a success was due to the hard work put in by the students and the support from parents. Let's hope this continues or spurs each participants interest in science. Pluggie urges fire prevention Beauty is only skin deep, ac-cording to the old saying. Sometimes clean-u- p around the house during the year is only skin deep, too. Out where the family does most of its living, everything is neat and orderly as can be. But how about the attic or storage closet, the basement workroom, or garage corner? "These are-ap- t to be the forgotten spots," says your Pleasant Grove Fire Department. "And they can be the trouble spots, where destruc-tive, dangerous fire starts." Put rubbish on the run in all these areas, the department urges. Clean out any stacks of newspapers and magazines, discarded clothing, mattresses, old furniture and lamp shades, draperies-a- ll the clutter that collects in attics, basements and closets. Do the same clean-u- p job in the home workshops too-shav-scraps, oily rags, old paint cans. Don't forget about the trash ac-cumulating in the garage, and get rid of any crates and cartons out-side the house. "A good, thorough clean-u- p job nowand repeated at regular in-tervals- is one of the smartest things you can do to keep your home and family safe from fire." PLUGIESAYS: Don't give fire a place to start ! Have you met Plugie yet? Contact the Ladies Fire Department for your group or club and reserve him. Mental health classes planned Mental illness in a family member can cause innumerable problems for a family, often cuasing them to feel depressed, isolated and confused about the nature of the illness and the treatment being offered. Realizing families often need help in coping with these problems, Timpanogos Community Mental Health Center is holding a series of classes about mental illness. These classes are designed to help family members understand the nature of the illness their loved one has and enable them to cope with their feelings about the illness as well as the behavior patterns their loved ones may display. It is important for family members to attend these classes to enable them to gain the knowledge and skills to help them better assist their loved one in the treatment process. The classes will be taught on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. at Timpanogos Community Mental Health conference room, 1161 E. 300 North, Provo. There is no cost. Timpanogos Community Mental Health Center is now in the process of starting a new class and invites anyone with a mentally ill family member to attend.
