Show City protests power plant Mayor David Holdaway signed a letter Tuesday night protesting a proposal by Great Western Power of Manti to develop a power plant at the mouth of Battlecreek Canyon . The company has filed a request to develop a power plant using water from the city's springs in Battlecreek Bat-tlecreek Canyon mixed with creek water. The city engineer said that this is not compatible with the city's culinary use of the water. Frank . Mills, Public Works Director, said that he nor the state's water, representatives have been able to contact the company. City , Engineer Lee Wimmer suggested that a letter of protest be filed with the state expressing the concerns of the city. He said, that several levels of approval would have to be obtained before they could proceed. It would take a 50-year commitment com-mitment for such a project, he noted. Hydro electric projects are now able to compete financially with coal generators, he said. Mr. Wimmer said he was con-' cerned about the city's water being used. He stated that the city would have to then purify the spring water if it were in contact with contaminated con-taminated water. He said that he does not know very much about Great Western's proposal but said that the pipleline would follow the same routing as the old Utah Power and Light Plant that once was at the mouth of Battlecreek Bat-tlecreek Canyon. 1 ..V- ; .jirVj -'!'. t t , . - w.. -v" .
