Show Review - Wednesday, August 28, 1985 - Page 5 Catering, wedding services offered at local flower shop By KALYN SECRETAN Its like a breath of spring to walk into Pleasant Grove's new floral, beautiful arrangements and gifts fill the premises. Kathleen's Floral at 93 East Center opened in mid-Jul- The new business offers flowers for all oc-casions, fresh and fried for special events, weddings and funerals. Kathleen Casper is the owner-mariage- r. She's excited about the new business in Pleasant Grove. "It's fun to be here because I grew up in Pleasant Grove," states Kathleen. She offers complete wedding services, with package deals to save money on weddings. She can provide catering, the wedding cake anddecorations. Wedding decorations are available in a western, garden and glitter backgrounds. A woman of many talents, Kathleen learned the art of cake decorating while working at a bakery in Spanish Fork. She also worked in the old Griffin Bakery in her teen years. She has been involved with ar-tistic flower arrangement for the past seven years and actively in-volved in floral arrangement the past three years. Past experience was obtained at Granite and Peterson Furniture and Reams Floral. The Casper family lives in Cedar Hills. Weddings are a family affair and she receives a lot of help from her husband, Michael, and their two sons. Kathleen's Wedding Service has been operating in Orem and she hopes to be of help to Pleasant Grove residents. mat ' (? David Harvey urges PTA leaders to support kids The Career Ladder program offers a bonus to teachers who excel and have taught seven or more years. Teaching salaries are low, Utah is 38 out of 50. Funds are received from two main avenues, the state and district. District funds come from property tax. Out of every tax dollar received, 67 percent is received by the district. By Utah law, we cannot deficit spend, the school board must balance the budget, Mr. Harvey stated. The Alpine District increases one new school per year. The main goal is for every student to receive an education. Construction will be underway in September to upgrade Pleasant Grove High. A recent school board meeting was held at the high school where Supt. Cox and other officials toured the facility. The committee obseved the leaking roof, weight room in the basement and offices in closets. Needs were studied and plans are now underway for school additions. Mr. Harvey likens the movie slogan used by James Garner, "Support Your Local Sheriff," to (he phrase, "Support Your Local Children." His goal is to. help anyway possible. He thanked the PTA for their interest and concern. Every month three to four PTA donations are received by the school board. Last month one PTA donated (1,100 to the school musical program. Another gave $1,500 for a computer and $1,000 was donated to purchase an electric typewriter. About $4,000 is received monthly from PTA units to purchase equipment or upgrade the schools. Alpine District is the third largest in the state. About students reside in the district. Moneywise, it is the poorest but manages to carry on a great Kgram. A number one priority is to funds, he noted the district t&ives $1,100 per pupil unit. The jovernor, legislature, State Board and school district all compute the mil count. It is important to account for every student. If ten students were missed the district would lose $11,000, he said. preciation and thanks to teachers.
