If you missed it, you missed one of the fun events of the summer. John, Russ and Brandon Karren, sons of Kent and Trudy Karren, sponsored the event on Navajo Lane. The boys blocked the road off to traffic, watered the hot street down and had various age groups and sizes of frogs jumping against each other. Thirty children participated par-ticipated in the event. The competition started several weeks earlier, though. The boys sold polywogs that they had found to the neighbors. The children kept the polywogs in water until they turned into miniature frogs. The winners of the competition were Brandon Lowe, with the largest frog (and the longest jump). April Mellow had the tiniest frog, and the second longest jump. Conee Lowe's frog took second and John Karren's took fourth. Everyone at the competition had a great time. A couple of the frogs, however, jumped a little too far, and became, "Frog toasties!" Owners of the deceased had proper burials, however. Frog jumping contest yielded these winners, L-R, Brandon k Connie Lowe and April Mellor. |
