Show Ma Bell offers map to customers Since the breakup of the Bell System, many Utah residents are still trying to make sense of some of the changes affecting them. Mountain Bell hopes to clear up one area of confusion by offering consumers con-sumers a free map to help them "travel by long-distance - or by highway" "We're offering consumers the road map of Utah with the calling boundaries indicated on it, to help explain which calls' are carried, by Mountain Bell," said Carol A. Dunlap, spokeswoman. Dunlap explained that the divestiture agreement established new boundaries boun-daries within which Mountain Bell can handle long-distance calls. These calling areas are known as Local Access and Transport Areas, or LATAs. . Dunlap said the free booklet with the travel map explains the LATA system. It spells out that calls across LATA boundaries are carried by a long-distance company of the customer's choice. The booklet includes information on features of Mountain Bell's longdistance long-distance service and explains how the boundaries affect their customer's billing statements. Consumers can obtain a free road map with the LATA markings by. calling Mountain Bell's "Let's Talk" Bureau toll free at 1-800-555-5000". |
