Jesse Walker doubled to lead off the third and Steve Hansgren reached first on an error. Walker moved to third on the Spanish Fork mistake. Matt Norman drove the ball deep to center field for a sacrifice fly to bring Walker home. Hansgen scored on another Don error. With two on, catcher Paul Bronson worked the count full and then drilled a home run over the left field fence to put Pleasant Grove ahead 5-- Before the Spanish Fork defense could get the Vikings out, three more runs were in and the game momentum had swung to Pleasant Grove to stay. The Vikes had 13 hits to give Shawn Story the complete game win. Springville 16, P.G. 7 At Springville Friday, the Red Devils chased 10 runs across in the first three innings and went on to beat Pleasant Grove 16-7- . Springville only out-hi- t the Vikes 11-- but a bases loaded double by Brian Murray and a two run homer off the bat of Jeff Thorpe made the difference. Pleasant Grove plays at Payson today at 4:00 p.m. and hosts Iehi Friday at the same hour. Brock Moore, Ui Chad These boys qualified for the state meet after months of Nehring Jess Nehring and Jason Brackenbury. hard work. 27 Grapplers qualify Coach Tom Duvall and Duane Atkinson report that 27 Little Mountain Grappler wrestlers qualified for the State Freestyle Tournament. The State meet was held at Clearfield High School March 17. Winning first place were Kelly Sanderson, Rick Shumway, Cody Atkinson, Paul Duvall, Matt Hopkins, Chad Jacobs, Cole Kelly, Gary Sanderson, and Brock Moore. Second Place winners in the State meet were Donald Willes, Darrin Henry, Nathan Hilton, and Rocky Smart. Third place winners were Luke Nehring and Morgan Bulkley, Coaches Duvall and Afe, . also said that the first winners qualified for the Natl ',' Tournament but due to time ' expense they will not comp ;' the national level. Registration for summer league ball Three leagues will again be offered for children in Pleasant Grove this summer. There will be the six to eight year-ol- d league, the girl's nine to twelve year-ol- d league, and the girl's thirteen to fifteen year old league. Girls cannot turn 13 or 16, respectively, prior to September 1. The six to eight year-ol- d league is for all boys and girls from the area. Teams will be organized by schools and neighborhoods. All children within this age group are invited to play, and the cost is $10 per child and will include league play and a team shirt for the child to keep. The emphasis of this league is to teach the children basic skills of Softball and baseball. In the nine to twelve year-ol- d league for girls, all girls who register will play. If a girl participated last year she will remain on that same team this season, but if they didn't participate last year, there will be a try-ou-t for team selection. The cost is $12 resident, and $15 non-resident, and includes league play, tournament and a shirt to keep. The 13 to 15 year-ol- d girls program is for all girls that age, and will be organized in conjunction with American Fork City. Cost for participation is $15 for residents, and $18 for non residents. This league is also try-out basis for team selection ani girls should be prepared participate once again on thetear- ' she played on last year. Registration for all three of the ' programs will be April 2 throug: the 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. at tig Recreation building. Tryoutoii be April 14 at 10 a.m. for the9to:: 1 year-olds- , and at 11:30 a.m.forfc: 13 to 15 year old girls. Any pan: II interested in coaching ehouii contact the Recreation departae jj at 785-617- ,j Track team runs to victory By DARREN JACKSON Pleasant Grove's track team ran to an impressive victory last week in beating the Spanish Fork Don's and a strong Cedar City team. Pleasant Grove had 73 points to 56 and 54 for Spanish Fork and Cedar City. The cold windy day looked to be a j disaster for the Vikings but they toughened up and came through j with a win. Billy Adamson placed third in the high hurdles and third in the long jump to get the Vikings on the road to points in almost every event. Sprinters Darren Jackson (11.08) and Corby Morris (11.26) ran one-tw-o in the 100 meters. Another speedster, Shane Ortega, just a sophomore, won the 400 with a fine early season time of :54 flat. Orgeta also ran a leg on the 400 meter relay team with Morris, Adamson, and Jackson. The relay team placed second. Jackson won the 200 with a - clocking of :23.72 and newcomer to track, All-Stat- e football tackle, Phil Cook was third in the 300 meter hurdles. In the distance races, Scott Humble won the 800 and Blaine Maze was second in both the one and two mile events. In the weights, Robert Jolley won the javelin and the discus, an unusual double, with Jeff Grace powering the shot put for a first place finish. In the girls division the team was second with Margo Nelso winning both the 100 and 200 events. Debbie Fisher placed third in both sprints. Sara Duval took first in the javelin, an event that she has worked hard on for several years. - Laurie Ostler and Jill West both, performed well in the mile and two mile events. In metrics, that's 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Ray Fugal, Gordon Osborn and Doug Owens are coaching the team this year.
