Show Ninth Grade Over Springville From mere Springville made two first downs but PG refused to give up the big play and the clock ran out. Ortega scored PG's first touchdown and Jacobsen broke a 6-6 tie in the second period with a one yard dive on a quarterback sneak. Springville had closed the score to 13-12 in the third period and late in the fourth quarter had taken the lead on a well executed halfback pass that completely fooled PG's secondary. The PG team then came up with two big kicking plays to win the game. f . J t t i V ' ', f' ' - ( , - 1 Big plays from the kicking game propelled Pleasant Grove's Ninth Grade football team to a come from behind, 20-18 win over Springville Saturday morning. Trailing 18-13 in the fourth period, PG was forced to punt. Lineman, Deon Bezzant who kicks extra points and punts, got off a booming kick that had a strange "helicopter" spin. As the Springville back drifted under the ball it was obvious he was having trouble judging the balls light. With the PG speedsters bearing down on number 47, the ball bounced off his shoulder pads. In the mad scramble that followed, PG's Shane Ortega gathered in the loose ball and the reaction of both squads indicated which team had recovered the ball. With the score clock showing 5: 13 to play, Shaun Jacobsen handed the ball to Ortega on a wingback reverse left. Behind a great block from Chad j Maxfield on the cornerback, Ortega jcut upfield and raced in for the go C ahead score. !- Bezzant kicked the point after for a ; 20-18 lead but Springville still had ; I more than four minutes to work with.
