Show DECEMBER 14, 1978 THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1978 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY, People Who Need License Plates in December Should Buy Then simplifying the assessing and collec-ting of such taxes, they are paid during the month the registration expires. In practice, then, the taxes are due in January, but paid when the taxpayer registers his vechile. one tax for 1978 and one for 1979, as January will become the new registration date. To avoid confusion the Tax Commission suggests the registrations due in December be renewed at that time. The commission of-fered this explanation regarding the staggered registration. The lien date has not been changed from Jan. 1. This date is ac-tually the due date for the personal property taxes on vehicles, however, as a means of The staggered registraton program for automobiles could cause some misunde-rstanding for those whose registration ex-pires in December, ac-cording to the Utah State Tax Commission. If registrations are not renewed in Decem-ber and the taxpayer waits until January to register his vehicle, he will be subject to two years' taxes instead of one. This is due to the fact that even though the registration expires in December, the motorist is actually paying taxes for the calendar year 1978. For those who pur-chased a vehicle in December of 1977, through the staggered registration program, the taxes are not paid until December, 1978, however if taxes are not paid at that time and are paid in January, the two years' taxes are due, Information on Snow Pack Given for County Snow came early this year and the snow report data reports showing snow and precipation conditions as of Dec. 1 are in. This information was obtained by the Soil Conservation Service's Telemetry system called "Snotel". Snow depth and precipitation measurements are taken at selected sites by radio tran-smission. The Snotel is also capable of ob-taining wind speed and direction, coil moisture and temperature, air temperature, and stream or reservoir elevation. There are at the present time, 40 operational sites with plans for a total of 60 by 1980. The precipitation data is recorded in total inches since Oc-tober 1, 1978.
