Mr. Haslam was born Dec. 2, 1898 in Monroe, Utah. He married Ochlella Lee in the Manti Temple on Sept 28, 1921. Their daughters are Mrs. Grant (Virginia) Fowles, and Mrs. Iowa (Donna) Hall, they have 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He has 1 sister Mat-ti- e Dickerson in Rich-field, Utah and a brother Andrew Haslam of McGill, Nevada. He is a member of the LDS Church being a High Priest in the P.G. 15th Ward. He was employed by the Pleasant Grove City for 17 years before retiring. James Robert Haslam It will be held from 4 to 6 at the home of his daughter Virginia Fowles, 535 North 1st West, Pleasant Grove. All friends and relatives are invited to Watch Out, You May Upset, Hurt Someone by Dr. Ford McBride Mrs. Johnson worked many hours to surprise her daughter with a prom dress she would have loved as a girl. The response from her daughter was, "Mother, I would never be seen in something that old fashioned." In our dealings with people, all of us have been hurt or upset by someone. Research has shown that we usually attribute hurt feelings to the other person. We might say to ourselves, "I feel this way because of what the other person did. If he or she would only change I would be much happier." We fail to critically examine our own behavior in terms of the problem. It is difficult to look at ourselves objectively and say, "Maybe the problem is mine, or what am I doin wrong?" Taking per-sonal ownership of a problem is an important step in dealing with it in a rational and mature way. When there are disagreements and hurt feelings, the following suggestions will help: Determine what characteristics or traits you have that interfere with the kind of relationship you want. Take time to honestly evaluate how you relate to others. Be objective. Perhaps, you are un-feeling and fail to see the other person's point of view. Criticism or selfishness may also be a problem. Devise a workable, systematic plan to change those negative characteristics that tend to block positive, mature relationships. In implementing your plan, set simple ob-jectives and goals. Change and im-provement should be on an ongoing daily basis. To help determine what changes you want to make, think of one of two people you sin-cerely like. What characteristics do they have that you admire, that attract you to them? Measure the success or failure of you plan. Are people friendlier toward you? Do you have greater confidence in getting along with others? Do you have more friends? Do you feel better about yourself? In developing and keeping friends, it is important to remember that people like us because of our qualities, not theirs. When a problem arises with a friend of family member, a good idea is to redirect our thinking away from them toward ourselves. Dr. McBride can be seen every Tuesday on Channel 11 's Newsroom at 6 p.m. If you have a question or topic you would like Dr. McBride to discuss in his column, write: Dr. M.
