Show Public Invited to Open House at Alcoholic Center Ed. B. Shriver, Chairman of the Central Utah Alcoholism Council of the Utah Alcoholism Foundation, invited the community to participate in the celebration of the first anniversary of the new Alcholism Treatment Complex located at 1726 South on Dakota Lane. Mr. Shriver further stated that this would be a double celebration, as they have just received word that the facility and its various components: Emergency, In-Patient, Aftercare, Outreach, and Residential, have all been fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals of the AMA. THIS IS AN OXYGEN FACTORY. DON'T BURN IT DOWN. It was reported that the animal control officer had requested that the deadline on purchasing dog licenses be extended to February 28th. This would provide uniformity unifor-mity with other cities and the county and would assist in scheduling rabies clinics. The council voted to authorize the recorder to prepare an ordinance or-dinance amending the city code to provide for the licensing licen-sing of dogs, without late fee, up to February 28th. The facility has received national attention, in that it was built by the community and to our knowledge is the only facility built as an alcholism treatment center. The programs have been fully licensed under the Utah Slate, Division of Alcoholism and Drugs and evaluated by the Division of Family Services. Superintendent, James C. Hale stated that upon completion of the first year of operation of a facility such as this can be compared to graduation from school. "We had no guidelines to go by even to how much the utilities would cost. We built from a treatment concept, with no past experience to tell us if it would work. We have had a learning experience this past year and if we were building again we might change some minor parts, but all in all it proved that our theories, after 30 years as the Utah Alcoholism Foundation, are sound. We have been in this community for 25 years so we are not new to the treatment needs of the alcoholic, but unlike most operations where you are given a building told to operate it, Douglas Dinsmore, Executive Director of the Utah Alcoholism Foundation, and I were giver the confidence of our Boards in giving in-put into what we felt was needed to make it a "Working Building". The building itself is part of the treatment program." An open house with refreshments will be held frorr 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. or Saturday, November 20 1976. The public is invited. Al 11:00 a.m. there will be i short ceremony with featurec speakers. |
