ANSWE Rline: The cost of providing such a service has been one main reason why checkups are not usually covered by prepaid health plans. However, the Blue Cross Association, which has nearly 90 million subscribers has just announced a major study in cooperation wiih the National Cancer Institute, . which will attempt to find the in os i- efficient screening method to provide diagnostic service as part of a prepaid health plan for large popula- tion groups. The study, which will take several years, will seek to answer many questions ques-tions including financial one Mich as: will it cost less to provide this kind of benefit and administer the program than to pay the high cost-, of treating cancer'? The owner of a health food store writes: "When are they going to stop fluoridating our drinking water? Why should we be exposed to cancer just to prevent a few cavities?" ANSWE Rline: In a report that was issued by the National Cancer Institute in June, it was once again reaffirmed re-affirmed that fluoridation of drinking water does not contribute con-tribute to cancer. The American Amer-ican Cancer Society fully agrees. And, further confirmation confir-mation of this well-established fact comes from the Royal College of Physicians of London as well.
