Stake Scouts were honored and received rank advancement in a divided Court of Honor held recently in Pleasant Grove Stake. Doug Merrill (8th Ward) and Gail WalkeHLindon 3rd) were recognized for their effort and recieved their Star badge. Lloyd Thornton (5th), Derek West(5th) and Trevor were presented with their Life badge. Leaders and parents in PI. Grove Stake have been busy assisting and encouraging scouts who continue to ad-vance and many boys were presented with merit badges & rank advancement. Lord Baden-Powe- ll in speaking of his scouting movement, commented, "there is no relegious side of the movement, the whole of it is based on relegion, that is on the realization and service of God." The late Heber J. Grant, who served as president of the L.D.S. Church from 1918 to 1945 expressed his respect for the scout program saying, "I am very happy to give the Boy Scout movement my full endorsement. Thousands of our Mormon boys have been helped in becoming good men by living up to the principles of the scout movement. These boys in Pleasant Grove Stake who wear the scout uniform and serve in the scouting program must feel that responsibility and live up to the oath, law and motto; and help the Boy Scout Program fulfill the purposes for which it was organized- - to build better men. I I I STEPHANIE VICCHRILLI Stephanie VicchriEH Graduates from Beauty School Stephanie Vicchrilli, daughter of Michael and Thelda Vicchrilli of Pleasant Grove, has completed her training in Cosmotology at the Continental College of Beauty in Murray. She is presently a beautician at Roberts Beauty Salon in Pleasant Grove. She invites her friends to come in and see her there. L 1 ROLAND M0NS0N Opens Optometrist office Roland Monson to Open Optometrist Practice in Orem Dr. Roland K. Monson, op-tometrist, announces tbe opening of his practice in Orem. He will be associated with Dr. Ronald M. Pugh, op-tometrist, to establish the Eye Clinic of Utah Valley, and will maintain offices at the Cascade Professional Center, 560 South State, in Orem, and in the new Spanish Fork Clinic in Spanish Fork. Dr. Monson graduated from the Brigham Young Univer-sity, and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pac-ific University in Oregon. He was an honor student. He has spend three years on active duty with the U.S. Ar-my as an optometrist. He is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, and has fulfilled a mission for the church. Dr. Monson will be in general practice, and specialize in contact lenses and children's vision problems. Cold Melons, Ice, Charcoal and j Camping and Fishing Items DAYS A WEEK 7 -- ;'nr, Funeral Rites Held Tuesday for Vivian Frank Short Funeral services for Vivian Frank Short, 77, were held Tuesday, July 13, 1976 in the Timpanogos Stake Center. Mr. Short died at his home last Friday, July 9, after a long illness. The services were under the direction of Keith H. Stirling, counselor in the Pleasant Grove Second Ward Bishopric. Speakers at the services were Lloyd Walker and Lynn Jarvis, and Mr. Stirling also gav e remarks. Musical numbers were given by a vocal quartet, Bob Shoell, Elwood Allen, Keith Stirling and Gordon Walker, and a vocal solo by Wilma Taylor. All numbers were ac-companied by Catherine Rees. Prayers were given by Grant Simons, Jesse K. Thor-n- e and Lloyd Morrill, and the grave in the Orem City Cemetery was dedicated by Edward L. Short. Pallbearers were George Wayne, Elwyn Culver, Stanley Short, Lloyd Morrill, Reg. Lowe, Vernon J. Short, Edward L. Short and Grant Simons. Honorary pallbearers were the High Priests quorum. Vivian Frank Short was born Aug. 3, 1898 in LeGran-de-, Ore., a son of Jessie Franklin and Agnes Eudora Davenport Short. He married Lillian Lowe on Mar. 21, 1934 in the St. George LDS Temple. He attended Oregon State College at Corvallis. In his early years he was in the lum-ber business with his family. He later worked at Hill Field as a construction inspector. He helped in the construction of Geneva Works Plant as a steam fitter. For many years he worked on road and high-way construction projects in-cluding the Bryce Canyon road project. He was a plumbing and general building contractor in the Provo and Orem area for 25 years. He was a real estate salesman. He was in the U.S. Army during World War I. He was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove Second Ward High Priests. Survivors include his wife, two sons and two daughters, Stanley L. Short, American Fork; Edward L. Short, Orem; Mrs. Lloyd (Marjory) Morrill, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Grant (Valerie) Simmons, Salt Lake City; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Jessie E. Short, Pleasant Grove. Card of Thanks We take this means of thanking everyone who helped us in any way or expressed sympathy during the recent passing and services for our beloved wife and mother, Gladys Hilton. Clarence Hilton and Family Election Notice To all qualified electors of Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah: Take notice that on the 20th day of July, 1976, a special bond election will be held in the City of Pleasant Grove, Utah County, Utah, at the place set out below for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of said City the following propositions: PROPOSITION 1 Shall the City Council of Pleasant Grove, Utah, be authorized to issue General Obligation Municipal Purpose Bonds of said City in the amount of not to exceed Eighty-Si- x Thousand Dollars ($86,000) for the purpose of defraying all or a part of the cost of pur-chasing a certain parcel of real property presently owned by the Alpine School District and commonly referred to as the Pleasant Grove Junior High campus, consisting of ap-proximately 2.7 acres, which is bounded by First South Street on the south, First East Street on the east, and Center Street on the north; said real property, if acquired, shall be used for general municipal purposes, such as, but not limited to, the possible con-struction of a public safety building, parking facilities evening recreational use, or any other use, which in the judgment of the City Council, will provide for proper development of the City; said bonds shall bear interest at a rate or rates not to exceed nine (9) percent per annum and shall be due and payable in not to exceed twenty-fiv- e (25) years from the date of said bonds? School; the proposed acquisition to include the school building and a parcel of real property which, when included with the Pleasant Grove City Park, will comprise a parcel bounded by Second South Street on the south, by First East Street on the east, by First South Street on the north, and by Main Street on the west; the real property and building to be acquired shall be used as a civic center or for any other general municipal purpose; said bonds shall bear interest at a rate or rates not to exceed nine (9) percent per annum and shall be due and payable in not to exceed twenty-fiv- e (25) years from the date of said bonds? PROPOSITION 4 Shall the City Council of Pleasant Grove, Utah, be authorized to issue General Obligation Municipal Purpose Bonds of said City in the amount not to exceed One Hundred and Eighty Thousand Dollars ($180,000) for the purpose of defraying all or a part of the cost of purchasing a parcel of real property con-sisting of approximately fifteen (15) acres which adjoin the Pleasant Grove High School property on the south and east, to be used for a municipal recreation park; said bonds to bear interest at a rate or rates not to exceed nine (9) percent per annum and due and payable in not to exceed twenty-fiv- e (25) years from the date of said bonds? PROPOSITION 5 In the event the qualified electors of said City approve Proposition 4 above, shall the City Council of Pleasant Grove, Utah, be authorized to issue General Obligation Municipal Purpose Bonds of said City in the amount of not to exceed Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000) for the purpose of defraying all or a part of the cost of constructing recreational facilities on the real property described in Proposition 4, said facilities may include, but shall not be limited to, lighted baseball diamonds, tennis courts, an archery range, and leisure park sites; said bonds to bear interest at a rate or rates not to exceed nine (9) percent per annum and due and payable in not to exceed twenty-fiv- e years from the date of said bonds? PROPOSITION 6 Shall the City Council of Pleasant Grove, Utah, be authorized to issue General Obligation Municipal Purpose Bonds of said City in the amount of not to exceed Thirty-Fiv-e Thousand Dollars ($35,000) for the purpose of defraying all or a part of the cost of purchasing certain real property and the building thereon, which property is approximately 95 feet by 115 feet and is located directly west of the facility known as the old Pleasant Grove Junior High School gymnasium; said property .includes, a structure which was formerly Used as an LDS Siminary; which real property and existing struc-ture, if acquired, shall be used for general municipal pur-poses; said bonds to bear in-terest at a rate or rates not to exceed nine (9) percent per annum and due and payable in not to exceed twenty-fiv- e (25) years from the date of said bonds? Said election will be held at the following polling places, and the persons indicated as follows will act as election officials: Voting Districts 2, 9, 11 Polling Place: Pleasant Grove City Hall, Election Of-ficials: Virginia Slater, Joyce Walker, Edna Fraughton, and Rose Pulley as alternate. Voting Districts 3, 5, 6, 7 Polling Place, Pleasant Grove Library. Election Of-ficials: Lorna Hall, Alta Mae Wood, Cora Messersmith, as alternates, Lucille Carter and Uvonna Duvall. Voting Districts 4, 8, 10 Polling Place, Pleasant Grove High School. Election Officials, Carol Loader, Evelyn Schoonover, Carol Harmer, and Lena Wilson, as alternate. The voting at such special bond election shall be by ballot, which ballots will be furnished by the City Recorder of Pleasant Grove to the election officials, who in turn will furnish them to the qualified voters. The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be no special registration of voters for the special bond election, and the official register last made or revised shall constitute the register for such election; except that the County Clerk of Utah County will register as provided by law at his office during regular office hours, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and except during the ten-da- y period immediately preceding the bond election, any person who is or will be eighteen years of age or older by the date of the next general election and who will be a qualified elector by the day of this election. The County Clerk will make available, or will cause the registration agents to make available, at the above-describe- d polling place, a registration list or a copy thereof listing all registered electors entitled to use such voting place. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN THAT ON July 20, 1976, that being a day not later than ten (10) days after said elec-tion, the City Council will meet at its regular meeting place at 10:00 p.m. and canvass the returns and declare the results of said election.
