Races Going Strong at Roundabout Raceway Danny Houston tried to make up for his California trip the previous weekend by get-ting in some tuning time at the track towards the latter part of the week. His reward was the winning of the Main Event in the Super Stock class. First event of the day was the Sponsors Race. Joe Talbot was driving for Gordon Wright, B nice Adams for Duane Holdaway, Jack Jen-sen for Danny Houston, and Marty West for Don West. Each driver had to eat a hamb burger, drink a soft drink, dash for the car and get into the safety harness, start the engine and make a lap around the track. Jack Jensen proved to be the fastest eater and took the win. In the stock trophy dash Gordon Wright took the win with car 444 Maike Hall tip-ping on its side. Elwell took the lead and the win in the Modified Dash and Howard Sorensen won the Super Stock dasxh. First heat of the stock class was a real test for Gary Kam-pma- n who was out with his new car for the first time. He really found the groove and led from start to finish. Robert Newman did some fan-tastic driving trying to catch up, power sliding in every turn then went over the edge of the track. Todd Chynoweth took 2nd place. Second heat of the stock class was Steve Turner all the way with the Pink Panther having his troub les going straight. In the modified heat it was proven that speed isn't everything. Craig Chynoweth kept his cool and made a win. The Super Stock heat was really a heated battle with Grant Leonard spinning and meeting Dave Nelson head on, Sorensen took an easy win. The Stock Main was a wild event with spins and b umps and Kampman leading until the last lap when he went over the end and landed upsidce down. Norm Rhodes took the win. The Modified Main took placed after a frantic change of tires for three of the cars which had flats during the heat race. Jack Elwell took the win. In the Super Stock Main Marv Fatt had trouble getting started and Don West and Danny Houston had their troubles with sick running engines, but Danny Houston took the win. This class has such a good fun attitude among the drivers. But the ones who have the most fun at the race has to be Jack Jensen and Pete CampVi bell, who make racing possible for some of the guys. Jac k was out after the race taking some fast laps in Mike Roundy's car, a big thanks to the sronsors. ri i i Football to Start Practice on Monday Morning, 'must Be There i i 5 All candidates for the Pleasant Grove High School varsity, junior varsity and sophomore football teams must report at the Pleasant Grove High School gym Mon-day morning, July 19 at 6 a.m, for the conditioning program. The most exciting of these performances happened last Wednesday night when the cards played the Phillies. It looked like the Phillies young pitcher, Reeves, might steal the show as he pitched 15 straight outs and hit a lofty home run over centerfield. But the excitement was not yet over. Stepping up to the plate young Miller hit a grand slam home run to bring everyone to their feet. Congratulations must go his way for an out- - standing effort. The Cards won the ball game narrowly, 18-1- The Strawberry League games are quickly coming to an end and you are encouraged to get out and watch them. In the Pioneer League things are beginning to wrap themselves up. The Timps look almost unbeatable with a 9-- 2 record with but three gamps left to play. They' did have one game rained out earlier in the year that is yet to be replayed, also. All in all, the last three games should be great ones and you are encouraged to go and support the teams.
