Show P.G. Pony Leaguers Win Two More Games Last Week With games won on Thursday and Saturday, the Pleasant Grove Pony Leaguers addled two more to their 1956 skein of victories which now stands at an even 10. The only losses suffered by the locals this season were two at the hands of the top Provo Pony League team. On Thursday, the Bill Lewis coached lads clobbered an aggregation aggre-gation of all-stars from Heber and Wasatch County, 9 to 4. Eddie Lewis lefthanded the visitors into the ground via the strikeout route, setting down 12 Wasatch batters with three whiffs apiece. The whole Pleasant Grove team played outstanding ball, especially in the outfield, where Charley Buckner and Chub Chipman gathered gath-ered them in like big leaguers. The game was also notable for lack of errors. Pleasant Grove committed commit-ted none whatever and the Heber-ites Heber-ites only one. Saturday's game was almost a repeat of the one played on Thursday, Thurs-day, the locals winning 8 to 3 over a hand-picked squad of all-stars from the Orem Pony League. Dennis Barnett started for the Pleasant Grove team and went for five frames. Eddie Lewis finished out the remaining three. Again it was air-tight pitching, alert base running and excellent fielding that accounted for the tenth win out of twelve starts for the local Ponies. The big bats of the Battle Creek boys were also a deciding factor, as they have been all year. If you win 'em you have to hit 'em. Local fans have a treat in store for Saturday, July 28. The Lewis-men Lewis-men will play host to the "Sons of the Cops," Pony team from Salt Lake City. The young coppers cop-pers are currently in second place in the Salt Lake City league. The game is called for 5 p.m. |
