Everyone got in the Carbon game Vikings Run Over Carbon Friday For Homecoming; At Lehi Friday by Jack Hill Pleasant Grove convincingly defeated visiting Carbon last Friday 33-13 in the annual homecoming football game. Several hundred "sundrenched" "sun-drenched" fans were treated to an exciting offensive and defensive exhibition. The Vikings dominated the first half so completely that Carbon had the ball but four plays in the first quarter, and gained but six total yards in the entire first half. While the Viking defense was holding the Dinos in check, the P.G. offense accumulated 191 yards and 20 points. P.G. received the opening kickoff and drove 50 yards to the Dino 20. An incomplete pass on a fourth and eight situation halted the Viking drive. Carbon then ran two plays for a minus two yards, threw an incomplete pass and punted. Jim Kulows punt traveled 50 yards with the northwest breeze and the Vikes took over . on their own 30. Another sustained drive consumed the remaining time in the first quarter and put the Vikes on Carbons four yard line. Tom Strasburg followed blocks by Kelly Duke, Wynn Pead and Clyde Huntsman the final two yards for a 6-0 lead one minute into the second quarter. P.G.'s defense forced another punt after just three plays. Strasburgs 17 yard return gave the Vikes field position at their own 46. Craig Walker's darting, stopping, 50 yard run in the first play put the ball on Carbon's Car-bon's five. Duke plowed to the one and Walker followed Twain Gardiner into the end zone. Kent Prestwich hit the first of two PATs to up the Viking score to 13-0. The Vikes fumbled the next possession and quick kicked on the following one. Duke's quick kick traveled 40 yards, bounced off a Dino at the 14 yard line where the hustling Dale Newman recovered the ball. Two plays later, Bret Frampton passed to Newman at the two. Newman dove into the end zone for the third T.D. The colorful halftime show, featuring the band, under the direction of Chester Stone and the Pep Club under the directioln of Evelyn Burton, added the color, pageantry and class, that make a fall homecoming a spectacular event. A P.G. fumble gave Carbon the ball at the Viking 30. It took the Dinos 12 plays and a penalty to finally put the ball in the end zone with Randy Ruden going the final yard. Kulows PAT was good, making it P.G. 20, Carbon 7 at the end of the third quarter. The Vikes had a bad third quarter, having the ball just five plays for a total of 3 yards. Two fourth period scores, a 35 yard T.D. pass, Frampton to Gary Jackson and a one yard Q.B. sneak by Mitch McQuistion boosted the Viking total to 32. Guard Kelly Nelson booted the final PAT to finish the Viking scoring. Duke was tops with five tackles and five assists, followed closely by Huntsman with four and five. Jackson was named offensive player of the week. He caught four passes for 75 yards and one T.D. Plus 48 yards in two kickoff returns. Seven different players scored for Pleasant Grove and 12 different players carried the ball. The enthusiasm and experience ex-perience generated in the Carbon game will be valuable assets as the Vikes travel to Lehi this Friday for the fourth Region VI game. Time 4:30 Statistics P.G.
