Show L- - -v-ak CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM The Pleasant Grove Eagles won the championship last Saturday by dropping the American Fork Colts by 13-12. Statistics on the game showed the Eagles beat their rivals far more than the close score indicated. Pleasant Grove Eagles Win Championship Saturday Over Colts The P.G. Steelers also made the home folks proud as they came from behind in the second sec-ond to beat the Lehi Packers 24-13. The Steelers were heavy favorites going into the game, but thte Packers quickly took a 7-0 lead. Later in the first quarter, the Steelers scored, but the point after failed and the Packers lead 7-6. In the second quarter, the Packers scored again and took a 13-6 lead. The Pleasant Grove Eagles played a magnificant game last Saturday and eked out a narrow nar-row 13-12 victory over a very good A.F. Colt team. Both teams showed why they were matched up for the championship. champion-ship. It was undoubtedly the best ball game of the year. The weather didn't cooperate, cooper-ate, but though the temperature was low, the heat on the field made up for it. It rained a steady downpour throughout the game, but it didn't dampen the fireworks. The Eagles scored first on a 50 yard punt return by Randy Story for a 6-0 lead. In the second half the Packers Pack-ers lack of depth hurt. Kelly Price was hurt and couldn't play and that took the punch out of the Lehi offense. The Steelers scored once in the 3rd quarter for an 18-13 lead and put the frosting on the cake with a 4th quarter score for the 24-13 win. Both of our P.G. teams have played good ball this year, with the Eagles winning 7 and losing los-ing 1 to the Colts. The Steelers finished with 6 wins and 2 losses. Both teams also have some fine players returning next year. Bruce Dahle, coach of the Eagles, and his wife, finance manager, along with Lindsay Strasburg, did a great job. Carl and Jerry Wilkinson of the Steelers and their finance manager, Glen Wright, also did well this year. The teams and managers also al-so thank all parents and friends who supported the team, and the girls who helped in the snack stand and as cheerleaders cheerlead-ers also were great. Coaches will be calling soon to let players know when to turn in suits, and if everything is in good condition, a $2.00 refund re-fund will be given. |
