Show THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1971 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1971 Bruce R. McConkie Speaks at PI . Grove Stake Conference may be clean. We may become sanctified if we allow the Holy Ghost to work on our souls. The gift of the Holy Ghost is the right to the Spirit - it is yet another thing to exercise that right. He plead with members of the Church to be valiant, faithful witnesses to the truth. Special music for the session was presented by the Fifth Ward Choir, directed by Merle Stubbs and accompanied by Katherine Wolfe. They sang, "Behold the Great Redeemer Die," and "Before Thee Lord I Bow My Head." The opening song, "Gently Raise the Sacred Strain," and a rest song, "Now Let Us Re-joice," were conducted by Chester Stone, accompanied by Mrs. Terry Jenkins. Prayers were offered by Wayne Wolfe and Peter Chris-tiansen. Business of the meeting in-cluded the release of A. Clyde Hill as stake clerk, Orvil B. Davis as assistant stake clerk, Elvin Carson and Nyle T. Har-ris of the high council, Wayne E. Wood and Mark Bezzant of the Seventies presidency, and Bruce R. Lundgren as mission president, with counselors Mel-vi- n Lemon and Gene S. Camp-bell. Sustained were Ted S. Young and David F. West to the high council, Gene S. Campbell as mission president, with Eugene Mogg and John P. Gourley as counselors, and Marion K. Johnson as secretary to the Social Services Committee. Members of the Pleasant Grove Stake and visitors to their Stake Conference heard Bruce R. McConkie speak of the necessity of each baptized member of the Church being converted, spiritually born of God, in order that he may be sanctified. The conference, held on Sun-day, October 17, was presided over by Elder McConkie, with Stake President Leon R. Walk-er conducting. In his remarks, President Walker pointed out that the number of non-LD-S members in the Stake has increased from 145 a year ago to 225 at pres-ent. He asked members of the Stake to examine their own hearts to see if they are reflect-ing the gospel in their lives. He stressed the importance of honesty, and asked if we are keeping people out of the Church because our example is not what it should be. He said that although a person may be released from any pos-ition within our Church, the father's responsibility as head of the family is eternal. He plead with members to live the gospel in its entirety. Members of the Jim Davis family, recent converts to the Church, told of their search for truth and of their joy in be-coming members of the Church Elder Bruce R. McConkie spoke on the processes of con-Versi-in terms of baptized members of the Church. He asked, "Has there been a change in us that makes us fit candidates for the kingdom of God?" He said that people do not have to be taught right from wrong. Every living soul as a free gift from God, knows right from wrong. The world calls it conscience - we know it as the Light of Christ, Elder McConkie stated.
