Show School Enrollment Up Slightly in Utah, Alpine Dist. Enrollment in Utah public schools has actually increased a small amount when predictions predic-tions had been for a slight decrease, de-crease, according to announcement announce-ment made by Dr. Walter D. Talbot, state superintendent of public instruction. An additional 1,201 students were added to the school population pop-ulation this year, an increase of .4 per cent. It is the smallest small-est increase in many years, compared to a growth of .5 percent per-cent last year, 1.3 in 1968 and 2.0 in 1967. Alpine School District school population has increased 444 which equals 2.56 per cent. "We will continue to increase our enrollment in secondary schools for several years, with our elementary enrollmeent decreasing," de-creasing," Dr. Talbot said. "And since secondary education educa-tion has traditionally cost about 30 per cent more than education educa-tion in the lower grades, our costs will continue to rise." "Our many old and out-of-date buildings are another matter mat-ter of concern. We must continue con-tinue to replace as many as possible," he continued. |
