Show P.G. Cify Council Hears Problems Mayor Jack E. Cook and members of the Pleasant Grove City Council reviewed a series of problems at their regular meeting held last Monday night Councilman Cornell Haynie was on vacation and thus excused. The council approved a business bus-iness meeting of all city employees em-ployees for Wednesday at 3 p.m. to discuss matters relative to an employees credit union. Gilbert Horrocks, city engineer, engin-eer, discussed recent develop- ments of the city HUD application appli-cation for grants in aid for water wat-er system improvements. He stated that additional forms had been sent in. Mr. Horrocks also reported that the Forest Service had approved ap-proved the location of lines down Battle Creek Canyon and of an agreement between him and the city relative to fees. New auxiliary police officers, Dean Jensen, Paul Maxfield, and Kay Carlson, were introduced intro-duced to the council. Merrill Listen and Ron Stine, representing the Eagles Lodge asked permission to sell liquor mini-bottles at their club. Mayor May-or Cook stated that no action would be taken until a representative repre-sentative of the Utah Liquor Commission could meet with the council to explain the liquor laws. Dr. Morris Ingersoll, a resident resi-dent of Pleasant Grove, recommended recom-mended increasing the salaries of the city police officers. "We have an excellent group of officers of-ficers and they should be appropriately ap-propriately compensated in order or-der to retain them," he emphasized. em-phasized. A group of Chamber of Commerce Com-merce members were present to discuss the reactivation of the Industrial Development Group. They recommended that the board of directors be expanded ex-panded and reorganized to in- elude representatives of various var-ious groups and organizations. Also that board meetings be held bi-monthly and elections be held once a year. A meeting for reorganization was called for to be held the second Monday in August. A letter was read by Mayor Cook from local residents, expressing ex-pressing appreciation for efficient effic-ient service rendered by the sanitation and sewer departments. depart-ments. A list of needed traffic signs needing replacement was given to Councilman Paul Blackhurst by the Mayor. Replacements were ordered done by the street department at once. The council designated 100 West to 400 North as a "thru traffic" street. In a letter to the council by absentee Councilman Cornell Haynie, attention was called to recent vandalism at Kiwanis Park. He mentioned damage to plumbing fixtures, picnic tables and the scattering of almost tons of beer cans and garbage about the area. |
