F STREETS AND SANITATION The leaf vacuum has been operating every day during the last two weeks The residents have been very good d to rake their leaves to the curb and then call for Cor the leaf collector NOT ONLY does this practice remove the necessity for burning but it also helps to keep the leaves out of the storm drains The leaf mulch is then used for fertilizer in the shrub and flower Clower beds The Street Department has a good supply of salt for use on icy roads The new sander and spreader is on hand and ready to go Even though the new equipment is available the level evel of service will probably not be improved greatly because the city is now responsible to maintain Orchard Drive which has previously been maintained by the state PUBLIC SAFETY THE COURT report for October indicates receipts of The total amount included for traffic violations 1295 from criminal fines from dog violations violations violations vio vio- lations and the balance was from civil costs small claims and escrow accounts A police report for the week of October through October indicates the following activity 4 bur burglaries laries 20 thefts 4 cases of vandalism and 16 arrests for Cor various violations THE POLICE handled cases during the week which brings the total case load for the year to There were cases for the same period last year ear The mobile unit of the Orbis III Traffic Surveillance System will be in Bountiful on Nov and for a demonstration The unit will be placed on various streets at different times of the day SEVERAL law enforcement agencies will be invited to be present to evaluate this method of traffic surveillance No citations will be issued during the demonstration LIGHT AND POWER DEPARTMENT For the month of October the major portion of the working working working work work- ing time of oC the line crews has been spent in installing underground underground underground under under- ground facilities at the North Park the new Ward Chapel and in the Edgehill Drive area THE POWER crews have also completed th the area lighting lighting lighting light light- ing at Bountiful High School and provided new service to the Drivers Training Building at that location Decorative yard lighting has also been installed at the Muir Element Elementary Elementary Elemen Elemen- t tary ry School Installation of a temporary three-phase three line has also been completed for the Pages Lane Shopping Center This power will be used by the contractor for Cor construction purposes BUILDING PLANNING AND ZONING ZOr THE BUILDING report for Cor the month of apartments with a total of 15 units five were for Cor remodeling one was for a new carport and three were commercials AT THE REGULAR meeting on Nov 4 1970 the Planning Planning Planning Plan Plan- ning Commission granted preliminary approval to the San Simeon Subdivision Plat B This subdivision contains 19 lots and is located at approximately approximately approximately ap ap- ap- ap constructed Landscape plans and sprinkling system plans have been completed for additional planting at 1800 South Park and also for the Little League field at the 1300 East Park BUSINESS AND FINANCE THE SEVENTH annual installment for Curb and Gutter Gutter Gutter Gut Gut- ter District No 8 was due on Nov 1 1970 Installment No 9 for Cor Curb and Gutter District No 5 is due on November November November No No- vember The Business Office has been busy preparing annual in installment in in- installment notices for Cor these special improvement districts which were completed in 1963 and in 1961 respectively There are ten annual installments for Cor each district SOME OF THE accounts in these districts are delinquent and special letters are sent to property owners of each of these accounts informing them that they face additional costs and possible foreclosure by not paying paving their special assessments Closing Date on Utility Bills In the bottom left hand corner of the Ci City's ys received by the city if the customer wants the payment to be reflected on his next billing IF THE TIlE closing date falls Calls on a Saturday Sunday or holiday payment must be received by the city on or before the last working day prior to the closing date in order to tobe tobe tobe be reflected on the customers customer's next bill Over the past several weeks the Business Office has noticed noticed no no- tired an increase in the number of returned checks It is not known how long this trend will continue but most of these checks are being collected within several days after they are received IF THE TIlE returned check was in payment of oC a past-due past utility bill the Department of oC Utilities has ordered an immediate immediate immediate im im- im- im mediate disconnection of utility service A 2 service charge is assessed by the city on all returned checks |
