In connection with the same bust, made by the Metro Narcotics Strike Force, For-ce, Molly Glaser, 554 Elizabeth St., Salt Lake City was sentenced by Timothy Hanson's Third District Court to zero to 15 years in the state prison. Glaser's record includes a previous drug conviction, according to Christiansen. A third party in the March 14 cocaine sale, Kenneth Cricks, 108 "C" St., Salt Lake City was placed on a 24-month 24-month probation and fined $750. Cricks, who had no criminal record, played a minor role in the cocaine sale, according to Christiansen. Christian-sen. Christiansen said that although formal sentencing is yet to come for Ashe, the court would have ruled more harshly if it had not received a number of letters from the community asking for leniency. According to Christiansen, those letters stated that prison would not "fulfill a useful function" in terms of rehabilitation. Although Christiansen argued "vehemently" for the maximum sentence on the grounds of "deterence, punishment and protection of society," the court ruled that Ashe should be evaluated to determine if, in fact, he should be sentenced to prison or rehabilitated by alternate means. |
