Bartenders Cup is the toast of the Racquet Club This has been a week of popping tennis ball can lids rather than corks for the participants in the Fifth Annual Bartenders Cup Tennis Ten-nis Tournament being held at the Park Meadows Racquet Rac-quet Club through Nov. 13. The tournament is raising money for the 1984 Utah Winter Special Olympics. One hundred and two players are taking part in the tournament, which began be-gan last Saturday. All . matches are being played at 1 the Park Meadows indoor courts and a total of three rounds will be required to determine which teams go into the semi-finals. Those semis will be played Saturday, Satur-day, with the finals on Sunday. Also on Sunday the Racquet Club will host a "fast serve" contest and an awards ceremony following the final match. According to Bonnie Park of Park Meadows, 35 sponsors spon-sors have fielded teams for the tournament. A $50 donation do-nation was required from each sponsor, and $10 from each individual player. Tournament organizer Nancy Brandon credits Lisa Warr for doing much of the necessary soliciting. "Lisa . : has ;f been J almost Sqlejy v responsible for securing each of the $50 sponsor donations," said Brandon. All money raised in the event will go to the Special Olympics. Park said this year's goal, including outside out-side donations, is $3,000. The Park City Ski Area will serve as the site for the 1984 Utah Special Olympic Winter Win-ter Games, and Park City will host the 1985 International Inter-national Special Olympics. Each team in the tournament tour-nament is composed of one "A", one "B", and one "C" player. There are separate divisions for men and women. Each team member plays an opponent in his her division in an eight-game eight-game match. One point is given .for each game won. i The team that compiles the " most points advances. Park Meadows is donating the court time for the event, Miller Brands is providing T-shirts for all participants and is sponsoring the awards party. Rossignol has donated dona-ted the awards. |
