Show Art exhibits offer trip around the world by Nan Chalat A trip around the Main and Little Galleries at the Kimball Kim-ball Art Center this week is like a whirlwind trip around the globe. Noal Berts' water-colors water-colors glide past New York and San Francisco to the distant shores of South America and Greece. And Peter Kredenser's photos offer a bird's-eye view of exotic landscapes from Monument Mon-ument Valley to Nepal. Both artists were on hand to present their work at the opening reception Sunday afternoon. Betts was busy signing copies of his posters and Kredenser found himself surrounded by local photographers. photo-graphers. It was Noal Betts whose work opened the Art Center seven years ago and the posters from that historic show are now collector's items. His style still relies on ' broad expanses of white space, but over the years he has refined nuances of shadow sha-dow and has widened his use 1 of colors and washes. Betts appears to be equally comfortable painting snow-covered snow-covered aspens as he is capturing tropical storms in Colombia. His deceptively simple style reveals his talent. With a simple line or a minute change in tone he suggests more elaborate shapes so that part of the composition incorporates the viewer's imagination. Of course, color is one of his most powerful tools, and his bright plazas and multicolored multi-colored peasants are delightful. delight-ful. Kredenser's photographs, which line the Little gallery downstairs, were chosen by the artist to follow the loose general theme: graphic shapes. The most striking example is his photo titled "Scullers," an aerial view of a pair of rowers on the Arno River. Kredenser explained that he took the photo from his hotel window while shooting a special assignment assign-ment during the filming of Winds of War. Many of the photos on exhibit were taken while Kredenser was on assignment in various parts of the world. But some of the most interesting photos were taken close to home. Kredenser Kre-denser managed to capture Monument Valley covered with a bank of dramatic storm clouds, and in Topan-ga Topan-ga Canyon he stumbled across a special effect which he entitled "Acid Rain." He explained that this eerie shot of a shimmering forest was taken through a chain link fence. f. c (0 The Betts Kredenser ex-1 hibit will continue at the Kimball Art Center through' f August 17. a ' ' ' ' : a!,;,; - (' J -' I ' - .
