TTemmims TTfiflDS Hitting the backhand can be a natural act This is the fourth in a series of tennis tips by Bob McBroom, head professional at the Park Meadows Racquet Club. Most players seem to be plagued with their backhand. But with a little practice it is actually a more natural stroke than the forehand. Here are a few tips to strengthen your backhand and get it under control The first, most common mistake players make is to get anxious and think, "Oh My God, its a backhand," as they see the ball approach. They try to hit the ball as soon as possible to make it go away. Practice is the best confidence builder. 1. Hit a basket of backhands, keeping your head down, as in a golf shot. Try not to look at your practice partner. 2. If you're a right hander keep your left shoulder back. This will enable you to hit your balls down the line more easily and also helps to hide where you're going to hit the ball. |
