Art guild plans patio fundraiser by NAN CHALAT Record staff writer Fifty-one weeks a year the Kimball Art Center patio at the base of Main Street is a forgotten wasteland, a barren piece of choice real estate. For the week preceding and the weekend during Art Festival, however, how-ever, it is a busy hub with music, tables, chairs and sunshine for visitors and locals alike. The Kimball Art Center would like to change that in favor of the latter. With the help of the Kimball Art Guild, the center is planning to bring the patio to life all summer. The Kimball Art Guild has been enlisted to organize a fundraising fashion show, the proceeds of which will be used to buy outdoor furniture, said Kimball Art Center Director Diane Balaban. "The goal is to make the patio into a comfortable gathering spot for the public with picnic tables and umbrellas. It is such a super area right at the bottom of Main Street. I've always felt it was underutilized," under-utilized," Balaban said. She added the center plans to restore the fountain and to repair some of the brickwork around the patio. "We are not going to sell anything out there. We just thought it would be a nice addition to Old Town, a place where the people on Main Street can bring brown-bag lunches and where visitors can refresh themselves," Balaban said. The fashion show will be held in the Main Gallery at the Kimball Art Center on Wednesday, June 12 at 1 p.m. The event will feature four seasons of fashions from Cole Sport and a picnic lunch hosted by the Kimball Art Guild. Tickets are $8 each and are available at the Art Center or through members of the Kimball Art Guild. For more information call 649-8882. i '-y o 1 1 . . 'nJ In : - j : ! ' " '' A . ...
