Show Ride and Tie is comin' round again At 9 a.m. on July 13 a shotgun blast will signal the start of the eighth annual Park City Ride and Tie race. Two humans and one horse will set out to cover 33 miles of tough terrain in the shortest time possible. With its basis in Western folklore, the modern Ride and Tie was conceived about 15 years ago by Bud Johns as a promotion for Levi Strauss. Less than 20 teams, all from the San Francisco bay area, competed. Last year more than 90 teams from all over the United States and abroad were on hand when Park City hosted the 14th annual international Ride and Tie. This year, organizers have added a new dimension to the race by including a Greenhorn run, a mere 13 miles of rugged road and trail for the novice to try. The Ride and Tie race in both divisions consists of one person running and one person riding. They take turns, tying the horse and passing one another in leap-frog fashion. This year's race will beuin in (he Bonanza Flat area just below Guardsman Pass above Park City. After the race an awards barbecue will be held at the Park City Ski Area. Tickets lor the barbecue are available from the Park City ChamberBureau for $6 each. For further information about this year's race, contact either Mark Menlove at the Park City Chamber, 649-6100. or Teri Gomes, Ride and Tie public relations director at 649-746:? |
