Show (T.ETY- Feasibility Study Indicates School Could be Used For City Offices City Councilmen received recently a study on the feasibility of converting the old Marsac School Building into municipal office space. The city has been considering consider-ing moving all its offices to the building since the School District announced plans two years ago to build a new elementary school at Snyder-ville. Snyder-ville. The city is presently leasing the building for six months at $1 per month. After that they have first right of refusal or an option to purchase the building at a yet to be decided upon price. It is thought the city would pay roughly $1 million for the building. The feasibility study compiled com-piled by architect Richard Chong is very favorable, indicating the building could be converted to offices for between $200,000 and $600,000. The building is so 1 large, however, that even if all city departments were located in the building only about one third of the total space would be used. At present the city's Planning and Building Departments De-partments are housed in the building, as is the Park City Pre-School and a special pre-school for handicapped children. Chong's study suggests the unused space in the building could be leased to other community groups like the two pre-schools. Above all, the school provides space to expand city departments in the future. Another alternative for municipal office space now being considered by Council-men Council-men would be the renovation and expansio of present City Hall. An earlier feasiblity study suggested that project could be completed for between $600,000 and $900,000. According to the plan, City Hall could be expanded to house all municipal departments under un-der one roof with space enough for approximately double the number of present pre-sent city employees. The space, however, does not allow for expansion beyond that point. If the city moved its offices to Marsac, new uses would have to be found for the City Hall and Library Buildings. Again, Chong suggests the space could be rented to either civic groups or private enterprise. "Councilmen are expected to act' formally on the proposals shortly. ! |
