Show EAGLE UPDATE The News From Carl Winters Middle School Anne was easy to portray because they were alike "goofy" at times, she exclaims. When I asked if she liked it, she told met, "Yes, it's pretty neat to be Anne." LOOK OUT HOLLYWOOD!!! HOLLY-WOOD!!! TENNIS ANYONE? BY WENDY BLACKBOURN Every Tuesday aternoon, when the majority of the middle school hits the slopes, some students go to the Park City Racquet Club to have tennis lessons. The tennis instructor is Dave Ervin. Dave has taught his fourteen pupils the basic serves of tennis: forehand, backhand, and overhand. He has also set up many games and tournaments for the players. One of the favorite things the class enjoys to end a lesson is a quick game of "Around the World". This is a game involving an elimination elimina-tion process. The students have fun and quicken their skills. Almost everyone has a great time-and really learns a lot. Some opinions of the tennis include the following: "It 's fun and it beats school!" said Stefanie El-kins. El-kins. Cathy Gould quoted, "It's fun, but there are too many people and the lessons should be longer." Jillbette Fletcher just plainly replied, "It's fun." Do you know have the urge for a good match? Go For It! ! MISS CALMES BY CINDY THALLER Erin Calmes is the eighth grade Student of the Week. Erin is . a Scorpio. Her birthday is November 13, and she is thirteen years old. Erin has one brother named Jere Calmes. They have lived in Park City for five years. Erin lives uptown now, and before she lived in Thaynes Canyon. Erin's two dearest pets are her cat, Cozie, and her dog, Kirstin. Erin's favorite class .in , Home F.connmir:. and her favorite food is Japanese. Miss Calmes favorite song is, "I Think I'm Turning Japanese", her favorite television tele-vision show is Dallas. "The Challenging" is the movie that she likes best, and the biography, "Mommie Dearest" Dear-est" is her favorite book. Erin Calmes is a very outgoing girl. She is the middle school's activity chairman. She also plays the drums in the school band. Erin takes an interest in many different sports. She skiis for the Park City Ski Team, and enjoys gymnastics gymnas-tics and swimming. ENERGETIC ERIN BY SUSIE MILES Every week Mr. Leath-am's Leath-am's Journalism class writes about an outstanding student who has done well in all of their classes. We call them the "Students of the Week". This week's fifth grade Student of the Week is Erin Mayes. He was born in' Colorado on June 23, 1970, and is now 11. Erin then moved to Salt Lake City, where he lived for three NEW CHARACTERS ARE COMING TO LIFE IN ART BY CINDY THALLER Mrs. Palek's eighth grade art class has been doing something very interesting and creative. The students are using their imaginations to create original characters. If you haven't guessed by now, the art class is making marionette puppets. There are sixteen students in this art class. All sixteen students have constructed the head of the puppet out of a mixture of sawdust and paste. They all have also made a body out of cardboard. card-board. The cardboard is put together so that the puppet's arms and legs can bend freely. After they have done that, the students will begin to make costumes to bring out the character of their puppet. Some of the students in the eighth grade art class are painting the faces of ther puppets. Others have covered cov-ered them with different kinds of material. When the young artists have completed that, they go on to dressing up the body of the puppet. Some of th students made their puppet's animals or people. The others made monsters or creatures of some sort. Next, all the students have to do is to connect the strings onio the puppet and onto the h. 'indie which works the puppet. All of the students in the art class say that they are enjoying this art project very much. THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK BY TORI PILLINGER On April 2, 1981 a play will take place at Carl Winters Middle School called, "The Diary of Anne Frank". A while ago the high school did this play. Now the middle school is going to try to pull it off. The characters in the play will be as follows: Allison Goodwroth as Anne Frank, Leigh Hill as Margot Frank, Dawne Gamble as Mrs. Edith Frank, Robbie Smith as Mr. Otto Frank, Angie Hagmann as Mrs. Van Daan, Nicki Koch as Mr. Van Daan, Rolfie Sandburg as Peter, Chris Elkins as Mr. Dussel, and Kristie Glad as Niep Gies. Also, not only is there a cast but we have a student director who is Cheryl Perry, and a costume designer who is Chris West. The whole play is directed by Carol Marriott. In an interview with the leading, Allison Goodwroth (Anne Frank), she told me that she enjoyed doing the play very much. She said they (the cast) were hard at work practicing everyday at lunch, and sometimes after school. When I asked her if it was difficult she said, "Not really hard, just lots of memorizing." She also said more update want. Here are some of the things they are planning to do: Most of the ski team will drive down to Snow Basin where they will race in a downhill. Lots of kids are going skiing at Park City, and one student says he is just going to sleep in. Mr. Leatham, the history and journalism teacher says, "I think we will gain some useful information, but I would rather get out of school like the student." Mrs. Marriot, the English teacher says, "It will be educational for everybody." TOM MUEZELAAR BY WENDY BLACKBOURN FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH BY SUZIE MILES In March, on Friday the thirteenth, the new student body officers are planning a dance. The president of our school is Tami Warr, our secretary is Michelle Mc Reynolds, the vice-president is Kris Ruzicka, and Erin Calmes is our activity chairman. chair-man. The student body officers are doing a good job so far. The theme of the dance is "Cosmic". The dance will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will end at 10:00 p.m. sister named Wendy and a doR named Nair. Clint's birthday is on June 25th and was born in Provo in 1968. His sign is Cancer. Clint later moved to Salt Lake City and lived there for nine years. He and is family wanted a different lifestyle so they decided to hit the beach in Los Angeles, California. California is one of his most favorite places. He lived there for six months. Then he came to Park City and lives in Prospector Square. He really likes it her for the six months he's lived here. When Clint grows ups he wants to be a commercial artist or an architect. He also wants to become rich and drive a Porsche. PARK CITY WINS BIG BY CRAIG GRIFFIN The first type of basketball was a game called Pokta pok played in the 10th century B.C. by the Olmecs in Mexico. Did you know that Wilk Chamberlain has set records for rebounds? 55 in a game. Records for 100 points in a game and 28 free throws in a game. This year the middle school has its own basketball team that plays its games at the National Guard. On Feb. 19 the Eagles had a game against the leading team, Church Hill who had a 6 and 0 record which was three games ahead of the Eaeles. years. He has lived in Park City for one year. His hobbies are skiing, and soccer. He has played on a team for the past three years. His favorite subject is art. Erin's favorite teacher is Mr. Miller. He does not have any animals but loves cats. Erin's favorite food is watermelon. water-melon. When he grows up he does not know what he wants to do. Erin has blond hair, blue eyes, and is medium height. He likes to be alone, and in his spare time he likes to read. He has played Cello for many years. Erin now lives on Wood-side Wood-side Avenue. He has one sister and two brothers. His sister's name is Stacey. His two brother's names are Kelly and Steve. We would like to congratulate Erin on being such an outstanding student. The disc jockey will be Michael Kane from KRSP. All of our dances have been successes. We also hope that we will have a good turnout. This dance is only for the 7th and 8th grade students who attend our school. They will be the only students admitted. admit-ted. The admission price is not yet decided. On July 30, 1968 in Amsterdam, Holland, Tom Meuzelaar was brought into this world. He is now the seventh grade Student of the Week at the middle school. Tom lives in Summit Park at the present time, and has lived there for the past two and a half years, moving there directly from Holland. He lives with his father. Hank, his mother, Nellike, one sister, Annette, and one brother, Peter. Hank Meuzelaar Meuz-elaar works at the University of Utah and his mother is a housewife who sometimes vorks at a preschool. His favorite sports are basketball, skateboarding and ice hockey. He also has a Season Pass to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles. One oi his hobbies is drawing. His favorite teacher is Mr. Sevier, and his favorite food is strawberry flambe'. Park City had lost to Church Hill twice before by six points and by one point. This time the luck was with Park City. They started out with a lead, and at the end of the game the score was 22 to 33. The Eagles winning by 11 points. Unfortunately, there are only two games left, and Church Hill will have to lose both in order for Park City to tie them for first place. INSERVICE DAY AT CARL WINTERS MIDDLE SCHOOL BY CRAIG GRIFFIN Fawn Chedester of the North Eastern Utah Service Center set up a date for the middle school Teacher Inser-vice Inser-vice Day as March 6th. The teachers from the middle school will all meet Dr. Keigh Hubel from Southwest State University in Minnesota. Minneso-ta. He will tell the teachers about a better student advisement program. The students really dont care why they're getting out of school. It's just a day for the students to do what they Tom's opinion of school .s: "It's okay, except for the school lunches. He is a good student. His favorite subject is geography, and he just doesn't like sewing in Home Economics. He also likes Mr. Leatham, his history teacher very much. Tom enjoys playing soccer and likes to collect stamps. He is very interested in snakes, although he does not have one of his own. He likes pizza and rootbeer, the color red, the number seven, the movie "Star Wars" and the televison show "Real People". Peop-le". Tom Mcuzclaar's goal in life is to someday become a pilot.
