Show Council Selects Chief . Thayle Eugene Lund, a .former Santa Clara, California deputy sheriff and detective was appointed ap-pointed as Park City's new Chief of Police Thursday evening. Mr. Lund was chosen from a field of 36 applicants who answered ads in the Salt Lake news media. At the time of his application, Mr. Lund was an employee of Chicago Bridge and Iron Company Com-pany in Salt Lake. Present members of the Park City Police Force neglected to apply for tfce position vacated by former Chief Larry' Henley because they felt a Park City man would not be considered. City Manager Wayne Matthews did however, voluntarily submit the name of Acting Chief Dennis Leatham for consideration. As of our final news deadline Tuesday afternoon, The RECORD was informed by the City Manager that Lund had not officially accepted the position, expected to pay $800 plus per month and would not be available for an extensive interview. Matthews indicated that he did expect Mr. Lund to accept the position. Lund, who graduated from Olympus High School in Salt Lake, spent three years at the University of Utah where he majored in Biological Science with a sociology minor. After relocating in California, the newly appointed Chief attended at-tended De Anza Jr. College where he received his vocational teaching credentials in Police Science. Later he completed a nine month course at the Peace Officers Standard Training Academy Acad-emy also located in California. In 1971, Mr. Lund attended the University of California Bohn Fair Institute where he furthered his police credentials in the field of criminal evidence. Still further he pursued homicide investigation investiga-tion studies at Davis College. Mr. Lund has received commendation com-mendation for heroic action in the field of police work from Santa Clara County, California and is respected by his former co-officers co-officers for his honesty and dedication to duty. |
