Show Recent Snowfalls Lighten Besort Spirits Although recent storms have deposited more than 27 inches of very badly needed new snow at the summit of the Park City Resort, no additional terrain had been opened by Ski Corporation officials as of Wed. afternoon. after-noon. Currently about Vj of the Resort's ski runs are open to the public, serviced by 7 lifts including , the gondola. The new snow which greatly lightened spirits is unfortunately too light to adequately pack. The famous light Utah powder which has been falling for the past two days slips easily off the hardened icy, rocky base created by weeks of no snow and defies machine packing. A Resort spokesman told The Record that many of the steeper runs are being packed manually by ski patrolmen and other employees em-ployees in an effort to open more of the mountain for skiers. i' 1 "We want to get as much of the mountain open as soon as possible and we are working towards that goal," she said, adding that they would be opening new areas on a daily basis as soon as they are able to do so. SnOw is expected to continue throughout the week and hopefully the new snow will have more moisture than that which fell Tuesday. The snow unfortunately came a day too late to save Interline Week, five days of inter-airline racing and activities activ-ities which was expected to draw from 1,000 to 1,500. The airline employees cancelled can-celled early this week, electing elect-ing to go- to Sun Valley instead. Meanwhile, the ski area is experiencing many more skiers than in the past with many locals heading up to the slopes for the first time this season and spirits in town are definately much improved. r |
