Show POLICE BLOTTER skis drop from sight Police report a series of ski thefts in the last week, brought on by the influx of skiers into the resort area. Another reported coathanger burglary took place Sunday, March 6. This time the dreaded gang absconded with $440 worth of ski equipment from a VW bus while the owners were off having a beer. The car was locked and the passenger side window showed signs of entry. The crime wasn't reported until Tuesday. Sometime Saturday night a pair of skis was taken from the ski rack at the resort plaza. The skis were rented in Salt Lake, so no estimated value was given to the police. Earlier on Saturday, another pair of skis valued at $300 was taken from the resort plaza. The owner reportedly left them leaning against the ticket office building, went away for a moment, and when they returned, the skis were gone. Yet another pair of $300 skis was taken from the front of Wolfe's sporting goods Saturday. Again the owner left them for a minute, only to find them missing when they returned. On Monday the story was repeated in front of Potato John's. The owner reportedly could see the $345 skis from where he was standing inside, but didn't pay close enough attention. winnebago trouble A 1972 International Scout parked in front of the post office sustained $500 damage last Thursday when it was clipped by a Winnebago careening down the street. A witness reported that the large vehicle didn't even slow down. Police speculate that the driver may not have realized what happened and may be in Albuquerque by now. contusions and abrasions A passenger in a 1976 Ford Pinto was treated and released from the Summit County Medical Clinic last Friday for bruises and abrasions she received in a Park Avenue wreck. The Pinto was reportedly making a left turn onto 13th Street from Park Avenue when the impatient driver of a 1973 Dodge Van tried to pass and plowed directly into the driver's side of the car. Estimated damage to the Pinto was $1500. The van's damage was estimated at $200. |
