Show Kidnap Suspect Waives Extradition Jack Carleton Reed, a 46 year old former Park City resident being held in San Bernadino County Jail on charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, prosecu-tion, has waived extradition and will be transported to Summit County within 10 days to stand trial on aggravated kidnapping charges. Reed has been implicated in the Sept. 18 disappearance of 14 years old Lisa Brown from her Woodside Avenue apartment, where she resided with her mother. Certain evidence indicates that the girl accompanied Reed willingly, but due to her age the charge of aggravated kidnapping is applicable by law. The charge is a first degree felony, punishable punish-able by five years to life in prison. Prior to his capture Feb. 4 in Edgeniont, Calif., Reed and the young girl traveled and lived in Montana and California, and there is evidence that they resided in Mexico for a time, where they may have been married..- The girl's mother apparently admits that she spoke to her daughter on several occasions. The girl asked her without success for permission to marry Reed. At the time of his arrest. Reed was apparently working in a cafe. Lisa Brown was taken into custody and has since been returned to her mother, who has since moved back to California from Park City. Police Chief Garth Wilkinson said he was pleased with Reed's decision to waive extradition and plans to travel shortly with Detective Rob Berry to California to return the suspect's to Park City. Wilkinson also said he plans to interrogate Lisa Brown while on the coast to gain greater insight into the case. Once in Summit County, Reed will be arraigned before Justice Jim Kilby and transferred to the County Jail at Coalville, where he will remain in lieu of $20,000 bail, until he can be brought to trial. The state's case will be presented by County Attorney Robert Adkins, who, along with Wilkinson, hopes for a speedy trial. |
