Park City called time-out, down by five points, with 4:08 left in the final quarter. Rams Randy Rawlings got inside and scored a quick basket; but Uriarte kept' the score close with a two-pointer from outside. out-side. The score was 54-50, Highland High-land in the lead, and there was less than two minutes left. Highland slowed down the pace of the game in an effort to run out the clock, and it apparently worked, as the Miners were kept at bay, unable to score. The game ended as High-- High-- land scored six more points and won what turned out to be a hard-fought battle, 60-50. Highland shot the ball with one second left on the clock and as the ball circled around the rim of the basket, the buzzer went off. and the ball fell through the net. The Varsity Game begins at 7 p.m. and the JV's start at 5:15. Park High's Marty Cowin scored 19 points Saturday night. Dave Radford, 14 points, and the Miners held a slim lead at halftime but were unable to defeat a well-rounded Highland Junior Varsity team. The Rams won by ten points. 60-50: Coach Bruce Reid said the week before the game that Park City's toughest opponent all year would probably prob-ably be Highland. Park High has yet to win a pre-season game, having lost to Intermountain, North Rich. Piute and now Highland. But it was evident Saturday night that the Miners have become better organized, resulting re-sulting in less turnovers. And foul line shots have picked up considerably: they shot 73 percent per-cent from the line against Highland JV's. After Park City got the tip-off. Mike Gebauer scored the first points of the game. Gebauer was held scoreless and fouled out in the third quarter with 6:02 left on the clock, which could have conceivably concei-vably affected the outcome of the game. A 10-10 deadlock with 1:11 left in the first quarter was broken when the Miners recovered reco-vered a Highland turnover. Speedster . Mark Uriarte was fouled going up for a shot; he made one of the shots, and then Marty Cowin got the rebound, passed off to Dave Radford, who dumped one for two points. The score was 15-10, Park City, at the end of the first quarter of play. Even though the Miners got the tip-off at the beginning of the second quarter, the Rams Randy Rawlings scored the first two points. Park City called time out with 3:44 left in the quarter, leading by five points, 19-14. Park City stretched its lead to 21-14 with a little over three minutes left before the half. Highland then reeled off nine points to Park City's six. and narrowed the score to only four points as the Miners went into the locker room at half with the lead 27-23. Marty Cowin's consistent rebounding re-bounding and solid shooting kept the first half mostly under Park City's control, but the second half would prove to be much more competitive as the Rams constantly substituted one player after another. Tim King scored the first basket for Park City in the third quarter. The Miner lead was cramped to two points with only two minutes gone in the quarter, and then Mike Bebauer fouled out. The Rams wasted no time at this point in the game when Nick Lords sunk a basket, tying the game at 29-29 at the half way point in the third quarter. Walter Hagmann came in the game for Tim King at the three minute mark of the quarter. Highland went into a zone defense with a minute left in the quarter. The Miners have not been able to effectively effec-tively play against the zone in past games, although it seemed seem-ed to baffle the Miners less against Highland. Tim King entered for Dave Radford when the score was 39-32, Highland. With 40 seconds on the clock. Marty Cowin sunk two free throws, but the Rams still led by six points, 41-35. Highland High-land increased its lead to ten points with nine seconds left on the clock.
