Show Pirraglio 'Superior Orator Geneo Pirraglio, a Park High junior, will be competing against young speakers from all over Utah this weekend in the extemporaneous ex-temporaneous debate state finals. Geneo advanced from regional competition to state when he was awarded a "Superior" rating rat-ing at regionals recently in Morgan. Mor-gan. Thirty minutes before orating orat-ing for four to six minutes, Geneo and other competitors were given the topic, "How Religions Solicit Your Money.". He researched the topic from personally assembled files based on TIME and NEWSWEEK clippings. Using Us-ing notes from these sources, Geneo stood up and delivered his speech. About fifteen other members of Brenda Benscha's speech and debate class participated partici-pated in the competition. Pirraglio began debating this year and his region performance was only his second competition. Other extemporaneous topics he has orated on include "R-rated cable T. V. in New York," "The strive for pay raises in Las Vegas," Death is apersonal matter," mat-ter," and "New slopes on choosing a President." He says he enjoys extemporaneous extempor-aneous debate because, "I find current events interesting, and I think it's good to know what's going on in the. government." Not only a speech giver, Pirraglio Pir-raglio also enjoys acting. He played Benny Southstreet in last fall's production of "Guys and Dolls", and will compete in regional reg-ional dramatics competiton on April 12. With Andrea Allred and Ceci Calieuette, Pirraglio will perform the one-act play, "A Phoenix Too Frequent." Pirraglio is also the assistant business manager of the Park High yearbook. |
