Neu Approximately 60 freestylers from the Intermountain area turned on a sun basking crowd at the March 20, 21 Western Amateur Freestyle Association Freestyle Contest at Park West. Mark Archibald had the hottest combined performance in Moguls, Mo-guls, Ballet, and Aerials for a total of 101.09 points with Den- . nis Talbot nearly as consistent with 100.65 points for second place and Mike Fry taking third all-around with 95.99 points. All .. three were Men's Class B competitors. com-petitors. A fraction of a point back was men's Class A freestyler, Wally Hartlauer out of Park West, who earned 95.84 points for fourth place overall. Hartlauer took a third place Sunday in the ballet event held on the fast "Get Hot" ballet course in front of the lodge. Park City skier, Steve Rezendez turned in one of the best ballet runs of the season for first place in that event and Hank Kaiser, another skier out of Park City, took second place in the Men's Class A Ballet. Jan Bucher, a Park West skier took a close second in the women's wom-en's ballet to Nancy Hendrickson. The Mogul event was held in Geronimo Bowl on Saturday and the Ballet and Aerials took place on the "Get Hot" course Sund-day Sund-day and attracted a sizable crowd strung along the course and relaxing re-laxing on the sun deck at the lodge. A band, Fat Chance, turned on with a mixture of blue grass and folk songs in the lodge bar after the competition ended on Sunday. Kraig Hatch, a Class B competitor com-petitor from Salt Lake experienced exper-ienced a bad landing off the second jump Sunday, and has now been released from University Uni-versity Hospital in Salt Lake with minor injuries to his back. Competitors were allowed only upright jumps in the contest according to United States Ski Association Rules which govern the WAFA meets. WAFA's next and final meet of the season will be held at Brighton, April 2 and April 4. Several top competitors on the circuit will be going back East to the National Amateur Championships Champ-ionships this week. |
