Show Chamber Member Profile : i - ... ' by Shirley Smith What more fitting business to honor this week than Dolly's Bookstore, Park City's "unofficial Chamber of Commerce." I think, and I'm sure owner Dolly Makoff agrees, that the Bookstore gets as many questions about Park City as we do here in the Chamber office. People trust bookstores, says Dolly, and come to them for advice on where to stay, where to eat, what to see and what to do and Dolly and her staff at the Bookstore feel it is their responsibility responsi-bility to answer all these questions and make people feel welcome in Park City. What a great way to do business. A little background on Dolly and her bookstore: Dolly decided to move to Park City from Salt Lake in 1974, and decided to open a business simply because, "I had never done it before." She started out with a clothing store, handling books as a small sideline, located where the Swede Alley Mall shops are now situated. In 1975 she moved the clothing stor to the resort but felt that she had a commitment to continue filling the need for a bookstore on Main Street, and moved to the south half of her present shop. The shop remained there for a year until finally, bursting at the seams, it was expanded to its present size last year. . This enabled Dolly to add more Dolly Makoff items always unique and in excellent taste like Dolly herself until now, once again, the shop is full to the rafters. It is Dolly's hope to try and provide things in her shop that are not available any place else in town and the variety is endless and marvelous. Curl up in the window seat and browse lazily through a book, spend pleasant minutes selecting greeting cards from an every changing supply, buy a gift for any one for any occasion, or pamper yourself with something a little bit special and if you want to know a friend's birthday just look in the Birthday Book. It's all there at Dolly's and we are pleased to call her Bookstore Park City's own and welcome and appreciate her Chamber membership. |
