Show LETTERS "Proud of My Record" always confrontations of various types on the high school level and I stand behind my style of discipline, though it be less aggressive than traditional ways. I have always tried to treat and respect students and athletes as individuals and have related to their capabilities on an personal and individual basis rather than maintaining an attitude that what is good for one. is good for all. In guiding and teaching my students I have kept in mind their need for self expression and experimentation. experimenta-tion. I want to assure the people of Park City that I fulfilled my obligations to their children in a way which I am proud. Never have I or will I engage in teaching practices that in my judgement seriously endanger the well-being of the young people I work with. Richard Groth Editor: In light of the recent article in last week's Park Record, I am moved to defend myself. I am proud of my record as a teacher and coach and accept my approach in matters relating to' teaching and coaching to be me. The criticism of last week's article which suggest that as an educator I do not have the safety of my students in mind or at heart, is ridiculous. I love them. The school administration and I have a divergence in philosophy of education, athletics, and approach to people yes, students are people too and utmost. I consider the article to be not only personally offensive but close to professional slander, and certainly not reflective of the general situation. Ask the students stud-ents and parents. I do not shy from criticisms or differences of opinion or method when I am treated fairly. My own learning experience has taught me that a balance of personal freedom and discipline is necessary neces-sary for the development of the athlete and student. There are |
