Show power outage strikes resort Power went out at Park City Resort Monday afternoon, causing damage to Gondola machinery and pumps for the resort's water supply, which left the Summit House high and dry. According to Mountain Manager Phil Jones, power went out at about noon all over the mountain when a Utah Power and Light fuse blew out. The exact cause of the blown fuse was not known at press time. Most lifts were running again on auxiliary power within 10 minutes, Jones said, although the Crescent chair was idle for nearly half an hour. Power came back on an hour after the black-out, but the initial failure caused damage to the Gondola's drive mechanism and maintenance crews spent the afternoon making repairs before getting the Gondola in operation again late in the day. Repair of the water pump, located deep in a mine shaft, was made more difficult because the mine is no longer in operation, Jones said, and the Summit House was still without water on Tuesday. |
