Show Park High Gym Is Transformed into Fairyland for Junior Prom A gymnasium? It couldn't be! It was the movie set for an elegant ball, or at least it was the garden of a royal palace! In truth it was a gymnasium-at gymnasium-at the Park City High School decorated for the Junior Prom 1971. What imagination these young people had used! What ingenuity! It is unfortunate that the Park Record cannot use color prints because a picture of this would have been a delight for all the subscribers. But, alas, it must be black and white, so a word picture must suffice. Using the movie "LoveStory" as a theme, the entire gymnasium gym-nasium was transformed entering through a constructed corridor lined with wide red and white stripes with lovely white satin bows at three foot intervals, inter-vals, then emerging between tall "marble" pillars into a softly lighted fairyland. A graceful striped canopy, again in red and white, hung from the center of the ceiling to low on the side walls, giving it more of an intimate feeling, Miniature lights in strings hung in profusion to create a magical effect. On the far end of the room ras a colorful mural painted y Mrs. Lily Marchant, teacher .t Marsac School, with assist-.nce assist-.nce from some of the Juniors, "lowers, mountains, water and rees were incorporated into his mural which must have been d least thirty feet long by about ive feet high. In the center of this garden itmosphere was a beautiful ountain shooting streams of :lear water up a few feet into he air and falling gently back nto the clear pool creating jentle ripples. Vines and flowers flow-ers trailed attractively around :he simulated brick base. A platform at the far left nad been set up for the orchestra orches-tra which undoubtedly would contribute to the theme by play ing "Love Story." In the near left corner as you entered was an attractive white iron- bench near which stood a life size "marble" statue of a lovely young woman. To the right on entry was erected a presentation platform for the debut of each formally attired couple just prior to their Promenade. This was indeed a scene to enhance this night of nights for the Junior Class and every inch of the way it was most professional. profes-sional. Their programs were carried out in red and white "Love Story" in red on a white center-opening center-opening booklet which disclosed a dancing couple on a carpet of stars. Names of patrons and patronesses, pat-ronesses, the names of - the Junior Class members, 34 in HI, with class officers, advisors ad-visors and the Prom committee, commit-tee, the dance directors and credits for help along the way are included in this booklet which states indside the front cover "these memories were personally printed for "; and Gay Lynn Kummer, secretary sec-retary of the class, has noted well the sentiments for the evening: Everything has been set into place. The last minute touches all have their space. And then it's that time when and I enter, : and I stop at the door to look And then we realize no other night is dearer, For this is our story, a 'Love Story" forever. The 1971 Junior Class of Park City High School is to be commended com-mended on their choice and manipulation of the props used for this transformation of the gymnasium into an unusually attractive setting for the prom. It took thought, planning and a lot of time! |
