Bostaph intends in-tends to lose no lime in tho improvement improve-ment ot tho city's water system, made possible by the passing of the bond Issue, election of TueBdav. Assistant City Engineer M. E. Roach, with J, M. Tracey and a corps of surveyors, went to Cold Water canyon yesterday morning and will begin the work surveying sur-veying the ground for tho building of the reservoir dam and the laying of the conduit. "The city engineering department will be able to give the public au estimation es-timation on the cost of the Improvements Improve-ments within ten days," said the city engineer. "There will bo no time lost. Tho excavation for tho reservoir dam will be started at once and the conduit will be built without any delay. The pipe line will bo more than two miles long and tho size of It will depend upon the drop which we find. If the drop Is sufficient to give plenty of force to the water flow the pipe will not need bo so large. I should Judge, that it would take about a thirty Inch pipe" The improvement will mean that the city will have a double distributing system which In case of lire will be a preat advantage. It will also pre-cnt pre-cnt the city from being deprived of water should a break occur In one of the water mains, such as the city experienced a few weeks ago. The city owns" IPO acres of land In Cold Water canyon, every acre of vvhlrh contains a spring of clear cold water. At present this water Is going to waste, but by the building of a dam which will extend down to bed rock the water will be held for drinking purposes When the Improvements which will cost In the neighborhood of $100,000, are completed the city's water system will be worth nearly a million dollars. It will also be ono of the most complete and modern water wa-ter systems In the whole intcrnioua-talu intcrnioua-talu country. |
