Show SHEEP HELD' BACK BY DROTOHT Nearly all the i-loop herds of the country are tied up on the desert line, near the -Nevada Loundar, and sheepmen are becoming Impatient because be-cause of the scarcity of snow In tho west. It Is said by tho sheepmen, that the recent rain storm did but little good to the ranges, and yet it was the means of lining some low places with a small ipuintity of water, which permitted per-mitted some of the herds to move a little farther into the desert land and get better feed for a few days. There was not enough rain to do much good, as the he.it of the sun dried It up In a short while. There Is pretty good feed on tho desert, the herders say, but the sheep cannot be placed upon It because there is no water. No snow has fallen this winter on ihe desert, and since the sheep came to the fall range from the summer ranges they have been unable to rnoo, the result being that grass on the desert edge is becoming exceedingly short. No sih.av fell liiring the recent storm except In the high ranges. It is feared 'hat If mow does not fly soon on the desi rt tho sheep will suffer suf-fer for feed and they will enter the winter range lu rather, poor condition. |
