When our Puritanic forebears, sincere in their trust in God, set aside one day in the year in which to offer up thanks to the Almighty for the blessings bestowed upon them, they had no other thought but sincere gratitude. They see only one of the many annual holidays, an occasion to be celebrated, not in thankfulness, but in enjoyment. But vhy not mingle this enjoyment with a little gratitude? Why not think a little of the good things that have been sent your ' way since you ate your last Thanksgiving day dinner, and then spend a few moments to show "your appreciation? i No matter how heavy your burden, no matter how hard your ' lot, you have something to be thankful for. You can always find someone whose cross has been harder to b?ar than your own, and you can at least be thankful that you are not in his or her position.
