Nelson, the Washington Suite college sprinter w ho won ten points In the conference meet at Crbana last June, by secur-: secur-: Ing firsts in tho 100 and the 220-yard, dashes Is declared to have been ineligible in-eligible for the meet. In a statement issi-?d by the conference Ineligibility board. The facts were gathered after correspondence .with Washington : schools. 1 Nelson was the only athlete who represented Washington state, and even ev-en before the meet charges of Ineligibility Ineligi-bility were made against him. Although Al-though no formal charges were brought, it was not until his school had announced he had competed one more year than the rules allow and that the case was brought to the attention at-tention eif tho conference. It was found that Nelson competed with the ' Slate Agricultural college of Colorado during the year 19'7 os He then went to Washington state, at Iullman, Wash., In the fall of 190S. 3nd competed com-peted In the years of lftog-OMO. According Ac-cording to the conference rules, no athlete Is allowed nivre than three years In any branch of athletics and. therefore, he was not eligible to enter en-ter the track moet. No action was taken n the matter of figuring up the polnt6 made by each team as a result of throwing out Nelson's performances, as this matter will be left to the conference association when it meets in this city n December 3. According to official figures, Notre Dame and Leland Stanford are tied with 17 points each. Re fore the performances per-formances of Philbrook and Demmlck was thrown out, Notre Dame led with 29 points. When their scores were not allowed Stanford led by two points. As Wesson was second in the hundred yard-dash, two points aro added to Notre Dame's score. |
