There will be no Beverly label on the Ohio republican ante-convention situation. This much was decided upon at the summer White House today, when, Just previous to his departure on a ten days' cruise along the coast of Maine, President Tuft had as his luncheon guests Senators Burton and Dick, and Republican Chairman Wade Ellis. It U understood that none of the three Ohio visitors today urged upon the president the preferences of any ono candidate for the republlcau nomination nom-ination for governor. While it is known that the president may have somo personal preference In the matter, mat-ter, he will not declare In favor of any of the candidates named. Off on Ten Days' Cruise. The presldent'6 guests left at half past two and Ave minutes later the president, Mtb. Taft and the other members of the cruising party started for the boat landing to board a launch which took them to the government yacht Mayflower, on which the ten days' trip is to be, made. The ten days' cruise In Maine waters wa-ters on board the government yacht Mayflower, which begun shortly before be-fore 1 p. m., will afford the president presi-dent a complete rest, although the trip Is taken primarily on Mrs. Taft's account. Assistant Secretary of the Navy Beekman Wlnthrop, who Is one of tho party, boarded the yacht shortly before tho president, and as he stepped step-ped over the side, a white flag was run up to the main truck and the guns boomed out a salute In his honor. Presidential Flag on "Mayflower." Half an hour later, when the president presi-dent boarded the Mayflower, tho white flag gave way to the blue presidential presi-dential flag, a salute of 21 guns was fired, the crew was drawn up on deck and the band on board played "Tho Star Spangled Banner." Those who accompanied the president presi-dent were Mrs. Taft, Chnrley Taft, Horace D. Taft, the president's brother; broth-er; Professor and Mrs. Louis Moore, of Cincinnati; Assistant Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. Beekman Wlnthrop, Wln-throp, Miss Maybel Boardman and Captain Archibald W. Butt, the president's presi-dent's military aide. None of these addresses will touch upon politics In any way. The president will reach Beverly on his return on July 28. |
