Show NICK VACOS MURDER CASE The bill of exceptions having been i si tiled in the Nick Vacos murder case, a transcript of the record of the trial is being forwarded to the clerk of the supreme court todav. This record rec-ord contains over l.TOo pages of typewritten type-written manuscript. April y., hk Vacos, a Greek candy dealer, walked Into the candy I store of John Contos on Twenly lifth street and shot him through the heart, killing him instantly. The only reason given for the murder was that Corn ns had foreclosed a mortgage against Vacos and had refused to give the man further credit After the shooting Vacos made a i spectacular escape through the crowd-I crowd-I f'd streets of the city, brandishing a ' revolver, and was not captured for nearly "ij hours, when he was run down by a sse of olllcers on the Sand Ridge west of the dty. Tho man was brought to trial arid i convicted of murder in the second degree, the court sentencing him to serve 33 years in the penitentiary. A motion for a new trial was made and denied, whereupon the defendant ap-I ap-I pealed to the supreme court, the pei- tllng of tho bill of exceptions being the last step before the case Is reviewed re-viewed by the highest court of tho state. If the decision of the lower court is reversed the case will bo remanded hack for another trial. |
