Show RAILROADS INVOKE TH2 ERDMAN ACT CHICAGO, Dec. 15. The Erdman act was invoked today by sixty-one western railroads as a means of avoiding avoid-ing a strike threatened by the engineers engi-neers to enforce their demands for higher wages. A formal appeal was uddressed to United States Commissioner of Labor La-bor Neill and to Chairman Knapp of the Interstate Commerce commission 1j act as mediators to try to effect a satisfactory settlement.
