Show TO CELEBRATE CENTURY OF PEACE. It is proposed that in 1912 the 100 years of peace between the British and the American people be celebrated in some suitable way. The American Peace society has been getting ideas on the subject from different people. John W. Foster, ex-secretary of state, suggests that the two Anglo-Saxon peoples should celebrate by adopting a treaty of unlimited un-limited arbitration. Sir Edgar Fry, who was Great Britain's delegate to The Hague, recommends that Canada and the United States show their sisterly feeling by removing all warships, forts and other defenses from the Great Lakes. Lord Courtenay Penwith, another leading British peace advocate, advo-cate, urges that a good way to show international good feeling would be to remove all custom houses along the Canadian border and establish estab-lish complete free trade between the United States and Canada. |
