Show IS DEFIANT He Will Not Resign to Gratify His , Enemies Seattle, Wash., July 12 Secretar cf the Interior Richard A. Dalllngo urrived home from Washington tonight to-night to spend the summer vacation. The first thing the secretary said upon his arrival was that he has no Intention of resignation Secretary Ballinger declared he had no Intention of taking any active part in (politics in this state during the present campaign. "It has been frequently stated,-' sold the secretary, "that i intend to resign, and that I have moved nr.' holsehold furniture away from Washington. Wash-ington. There is absolutely no foundation foun-dation for any such statement. I am not niude of the resigning material, and do not propose to gratify those persons who want roe to resign.. Thai. Is not my object in being in office. "I expect to administer the interior department In a legal manner which I believe will untimately receive the approbation of everyone. "I am greatly pleased with the legislation leg-islation enacted by congress affect i&g the Interior department and which lor the most purt has been the enactment enact-ment of the policies ot the administration adminis-tration in giving legal authority t withdraw public lands for the purposo of classilication and to enable congress con-gress to enact legislation for the proper prop-er disposition of the public domain. "The $20,000,000 reclamation bond issue was an administration measure, meas-ure, as was tin? largely increased appropriation ap-propriation for the survey of publii lands, not only in the United States, but the 9100,000 appropriation for surveys sur-veys in Alaska. "The interior department secured through congress more substantial legislation at the last session than for peveral years previous. A very fine measure passed was that which enables entry in lands containing coal and the disposition of the coal under appropriate laws. "I take great satisfaction not only In the results affecting the Interior department, bnt the other departments depart-ments as well. I feel particularly glad that President Taft has secured the fuMlDment of substantially. all the partyv pledges." |
