July 13 Two patrolmen patrol-men called to the fourth floor of a tenement on East loth street by the sound of a revolver shot, early this moraing. found Mrs. Antonio Skura, a comely young woman. In bed, fully conscious, with a bullet wound In the right side of her head, another in the right shoulder and another In the right I hand. Her night gown was smouldering. smoulder-ing. A baby beside her was crying from fright, but was uninjured. The police have not decided whether wheth-er tho case Is one of attempted murder mur-der or attempted suicide. The woman wom-an was asked who shot her. "1 don't know," she replied. "Did you do It yourself?" "I don't know." The same answer was returned to all questions put to the young woman wom-an A peculiar address on the back of one of three letters found on a i table In the bedroom is taken as some evidence that Ihe case Is one of attempted at-tempted suicide. On the back of this letter were the words: "Return In the other world" But two men told the police that while they were passing the house on the other side of the street, they heard a revolver shot and that immediately im-mediately following It a man's straw hat floated through an open window of the Skura home. The woman Is In a hospital in a serious condition. |
